Marsofold has done it and posted a variation of his tek somewhere. One can basically use his MHRB tek, but add a bunch of defats before basifying. Alk content varies, but most reports have it containing little to none.

I haven't personally tried this yet however, I would immagine that it is alot more gunky than MHRB, which is reportedly low-fat. Now,... Scuba! shoe

I've seen some reports they say it varies way too much sometimes you get very little yield and that desmanthus leptolobus is more consistent at around 0.2 usually if I remember correctly.

Just like mimosa but a little more fat as the roots are small it is difficult to strip off root bark on small roots so you will get some root pulp extracted as well. Other than that it is #2 on my list. Good stuff than grows just fine in most of the US. PLUS you can get a nice extraction from the leaves and stems at end of season. Not as potent as root bark but still of value the plants will lose all above ground biomass in fall but will return in spring. Waste not Want not! PEACE MV

I think SWIM won't bother himself with desmanthus.

I think its great haven't bothered my patch in 3 years other than to look at it and pruning its just there getting larger every year in standby mode it grows by its self. The root bark is nearly as strong as MHRB as long as the season is fairly dry. A realistic yield of .6 or .7% not bad for free and grows by its self with out and care in most moderate climates.

SWIM is thinking about growing mimosa hostilis. It may take some years.

How deep does the root of Desmanthus illinoensis grow. I know that it is a prairie plant, and many prairie plants have deep roots in order to tap into water deep below ground and so that they can survive wild fires. Also, will harvesting the root kill the plant? I assume it would. Maay-yo-naze!
