SWIM is wondering how to ensure he gets 100% lye. He never had any problems buying 5 months ago, but now all the lye being sold on ebay is '99% pure'. Thats no good.

Is this normal or should I try looking a bit harder?

Depends on what is the rest 1%. It may be radioactive phosphorus or just residual water. Better contact the seller and ask him directly. You want to know because you plan to cook pretzels the traditional way.

Hi Mescalito,

Just a worm here - no badge or flask thing. i tend to trust lye that says food grade or clinical (i think thats it) grade.
