someone i know did a stb and was pulling the jungle spice when he noticed an emulsion forming, he used iodized salt to subdue the beast, his question is, did he ruin the product by using iodized salt? Thanks for the help!

I dont think you have anything to fear.... Iodized salt should basically be NaCl with minute amounts of some salts containing iodine like potassium iodate. I would like someone with better chemistry knowledge to confirm but from what I understand this shouldnt really interfere in any way in your final product. Not only its very small amounts, but also these salts will anyways be dissolved in the acqueous layer, it wont migrate to your non-polar layer so it wont be any problem

Didn't hurt the batch I used iodized salt on. No worries!

Good info. Swim used sea salt when he had an emulsion, but sea salt was the only listed ingredient. People here seem to always specify using non-iodized salt for emulsions so it's good to know it doesn't matter.

The request for pure salt is not necessarily only about iodine. There are salts that contain anti-caking agents and other things that might be bad. When you are making an extraction and mixing different chemicals, its better always to avoid adding unknown variables but rather have pure products to have clean and expected products.

So even though it seems to me (but as I said, better wait for second opinions) that otherwise-pure iodized salt is no problem at all, still, if you can get pure sea/rock salt (sold in any of these more 'natural' stores or even in some supermarkets), its always safer/more desirable
