Hello all,

An introduction to me.
I'm an older guy.
I grew up in a religious household, went to a Christian school, went to church twice every Sunday and at night on Wednesday's. Did this from the time I was born until I turned 18. There was no drinking, no dancing, no movies, no sex, no cursing...you get it. Complete lock down, and corporal punishment.
We went through I think 4 or 5 pastors at the church due to random, scandals of cheating, molestation, etc. School teachers and principals same thing. Everyone I knew was a hypocrite. We kids, hid our 'sins' well. I hated organized religion.

I went into the military and pretty much abandoned all of it (as should be expected I suppose), once I was released from the bubble. Went full blast for a while on the drinking and sex, then eventually settled down, got a normal job, and grew old.

Recently I started questioning the meaning of life (as old guys do). It turned into a Rabbit hole, of looking at ancient Sumerian literature, in an attempt to find out what the meaning of life from one of the earliest civilizations we know. I found the stories of Enlil, and Enki their God's interesting, and the flood story. It seemed to be "close to" the same story as the Eden of Genesis and the flood. The names and reasons were different, but this pre-bible work had me go down more rabbit holes.

I started comparing these stories to the Bible, and realized that there are many books actually missing from the Bible. The scribes or whoever put the bible together decided that we didn't need to see these stories, which meant, I needed to see these stories.

So I ran into the book of Enoch. This book talks about *why* some of the angels (Lucifer and crew) were cast from heaven. After 18 years of being force fed religion I never actually knew what Satan did to be outcast.

Anyways, I'll quote a verse from it here.
From the book of Enoch Chapter 8

"1. And Azâzêl taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals 〈of the earth〉 and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all colouring tinctures. 2. And there arose much godlessness, and they committed fornication, and they were led astray, and became corrupt in all their ways. Semjâzâ taught enchantments, and --> root-cuttings <--, Armârôs the resolving of enchantments, Barâqîjâl,"

Then goes on to say:
"1. And then Michael, Uriel, Raphael, and Gabriel looked down from heaven and saw much blood being shed upon the earth, and all lawlessness being wrought upon the earth. 2. And they said one to another: 'The earth made †without inhabitant cries the voice of their crying† up to the gates of heaven. 3 ⌈⌈And now to you, the holy ones of heaven⌉⌉, the souls of men make their suit, saying, "Bring our cause before the Most High.".' 4. And they said to the Lord of the ages: 'Lord of lords, God of gods, King of kings, 〈and God of the ages〉, the throne of Thy glory (standeth) unto all the generations of the ages, and Thy name holy and glorious and blessed unto all the ages! 5. Thou hast made all things, and power over all things hast Thou: and all things are naked and open in Thy sight, and Thou seest all things, and nothing can hide itself from Thee. 6. Thou seest what Azâzêl hath done, who hath taught all unrighteousness on earth and revealed the eternal secrets which were (preserved) in heaven, which men were striving to learn"

So, I was curious as to what "The cutting of roots meant", and what 'secrets which were preserved in heaven' they were referring to.

Went down another rabbit hole, and this group perhaps has the answer to that question given what I've learned about how things are made. Maybe not all the answers, but certainly some of it.

So here I am on a new journey of learning. Taking the "bible" out of it, it is clear that early humans had access to knowledge that we don't. The things they built and the things we keep unearthing continues to amaze (and of course be hidden).

I'm putting together the items required to see the other side of the veil which will ultimately answer the questions I have, doesn't seem too difficult, but the education this forum provides is valuable.

A question: Is there an Onion site for this forum?

Sorry for the ramble...

Hello and welcome!

Some thoughts. Book of Enoch recounts events in mythical past, so I don't think we can infer much of real history from it. Root-cutting may indeed refer to pharmacology or it may be something else.

In the Old Testament prophets we see that the people of the Bible were familiar with the visionary experience so it's easy to see that in their world view there were secrets that were hidden from everyday consciousness. After all it's told in the very beginning of the Genesis that certain plant gave people knowledge that opened their eyes...

In terms of practical spirituality I don't think there's much to gain from searching for clues of psychoactive/esoteric hidden meanings in the ancient texts. It can be entertaining and thought provoking, but I believe the true wisdom comes from learning who you are. Studying religions can be helpful, but in the end they are all symbols, attempts to put into words that which is ineffable.

Meditation, prayer, physical activities that help clear your mind and sharpen your focus are something I believe will help progressing the spiritual path more than the esoterica. Then there are some clear-headed spiritual writers from different traditions who have put forth practical easy to follow wisdom that helps to live the day-to-day life. Anthony de Mello coming from Christian background resonates with many. Thich Nhat Hanh from Buddhist perspective is someone who I have found a great inspiration.

Psychedelics have greatly helped me put into perspective the spiritual traditions I have been influenced by. One of the most important lesson though has been that lot of the visionary content is illusion and the treasures are often very simple and mundane things that you just need the patience to grasp beyond all the glitter and amazement.

Hey, thanks for the response.
I will check out those sources.

I agree. It does, through my readings, seems that in some way the psychedelics turn off the part of the brain that 'filters' or controls what is allowed to pass through so that we can manage things into an organized functional way. Since we know everything is essentially vibration, perhaps shutting down the part of the brain that keeps the 'CPU' of the brain from getting overclocked and seeing 'all' the vibrations at once which would be completely unmanageable in everyday life for the human brain, you can get a small window of time to see what seeing all vibrations looks like. I'm sure your brain lights up all over trying to manage what it is seeing and tries to put things into containers within your realm of knowledge (same as the writers of the Bible). I don't know, but it's interesting to think about.

DexterMTripp,

Welcome to the Nexus.

That was quite an introduction and a great read. Thank you for sharing. Wonderful that your journey down the rabbit hole led you to this community.

There are diverse thinkers here as well as diverse members in terms of age and background. Many of us identify as older.

I hope to see you around and hope you find what you're looking for.

Currently I have zero experience with psychedelics. Everything I know about them is from reading, but as the saying goes "Not everything learned is contained in a book". So, I'll have to tell you about my experience at a later date. Smile

Growing up how I did there was a lot of 'fear' driven into people about doing any sort of drug (or asking questions about anything really) but especially psychedelic drugs. There was always the image of the guy in the black van giving kids lick and stick tattoos of Mickey Mouse that were laced with acid. Then of course the ultimate "All it takes is one hit to fry your brain and turn you into a vegetable for life". Fear was the ultimate controller of thought.

I smoked weed in my youth on occasion but for me when I smoked it I lost all motivation to get things done, and just wanted to sleep, so it didn't work for all the things I wanted to do. I however am close to many people that smoke regularly (many with PTSD) that function at a very high level, are highly motivated and get a ton of stuff done throughout the day, so it's clearly an individual experience. I assume psychedelics are no different in that everyone has their own experience.

DMT in particular is interesting to me because of the apparently short(ish) trip, non-addictive nature, derived from a natural source, and leaves the blood stream quickly. Again, no experience so I'm sure people have thoughts on that analysis I'd love to hear. Usually before I do a thing that I'm nervous about I want to study as much as I can about it so I'm fully educated before I go diving in because at the end of the day I have to rely on myself as the safety net.

I was taking Delta-8 gummies for a while usually with CBD (Still do on occasion), as a means to control a bout of back pain I had during COVID and wanted to get through it without the Carisoprodol/Hydrocodone combo that the doctors usually give me. I went through probably 15 years of really bad lower back pain, and taking those things for that length of time causes issues as well. I switched to sleeping on a hammock probably 4 years ago, and back pain went away. Occasionally I'll have a bad week, but for the most part pain free. I try to stay away from the pharmas just because of my own history with them. The Delta-8 gives me wicked dry mouth and uncontrollable munchies Big grin , so it's an 'every once in a while thing'. I actually was on a trip somewhere with my partner once and had a flare up (due to sleeping on a bed), stopped at a local vape shop and the guy gave me a single big gummie. I took that and have absolutely no recollection of what happened after that. I was apparently at a Casino that night. I have a vague recollection of floors and ceilings of the casino, but nothing else. Didn't like that effect so much.

The thing about this group, and generally people who I have met in my life with an open mind to this is that they are usually thought provoking individuals. A lot of color. A lot of ideas. Open to different points of view and on a continuous journey of knowledge. That is more appealing and a much more interesting way to exist than the narrow, closed minded world I once existed in.

Hi D.M.,
Interesting story, however….
“Currently I have zero experience with psychedelics”…. “So I’ll have to tell you about my experience at a later date”.
