I've been self administering Kambo on a monthly basis since the beginning of the year. Using it primarily to increase the strength of my immune system and for general purification. I used it first with a shaman at the beginning of last year in 3 sessions. He left me some to help deal with a problem i and a friend were having, so i got used to administering and self administering.
The intensity of the experience depends on several factors IME. The size of the points matters (i have 2 sticks i burn with, one smaller, one larger). The smaller stick leaves less scarring but is far weaker than the larger points. The moistness of the kambo matters, more moist will help it absorb faster. You can also take the points off after the main effect passes, mix them up with water again and reapply. Unless you are applying very small amounts there is usually quite a bit left that can be reused. How fast you apply the points also matters obviously, as you get a higher concentration into the bloodstream at a single time.
Other factors can also come into play, like the outside temperature, time of day, your own physical condition and how often you use it. I have worked my way up to 13 large points. It's still not as torturous as some of the video clips I've seen, but I'm just over 6 foot so it takes more for me to feel it strongly. I've done over 20 small points and it was comparatively much weaker.
Care needs to be taken when using this though, its a poison after all. I've seen people virtually pass out on small doses. A friend of mine had some applied by a shaman at the end of an ayahuasca session and he was practically dead for a while (luckily he was revived). Quite shocking to witness.
viva kambo!
