Hello guys,

I found an effective, relatively fast way to prepare cactus.

Basicly cut of the needles with a knife, a part of the skin will be removed as well.

Rest of the skin DOES NOT need to be peeled/cut off.

Cut in in really small cubes.

Heat up about 5l of water and add about 100ml if white vinegar, and a pinch of salt (where salt is water follows, might pull the alkaloids a bit more efficiently).

After it's boiling at a full level add the cactus, and boil covered for 4 hours, always on the highest heat.

It will reduce on it's own. Add water if nessecery, but in my experience it wasn't.

After it's done, strain and squeeze the remaining liquid from the cactus.

What you end up is a slightly thickened green, muddy liquid that tastes like wormwood tea and soap.

No need to reduce if you are left with 250-500ml of "tea".

There is no hint of acid or saltiness in the final product, although in my country tap water contains a fair amount of calcium carbonate, so that may not apply to all areas of the world, and less vinegar might be efficient somewhere else.

It kicked in in less then 45 minutes! Although the intensity had build up slowly and gradually.

Hope this helps, I see a lot of tutorials with cactus powder, and solvent extractions.

This is more of an traditional approach adjusted for regular household purposes.

Be well fellow travelers, and feel free to ask further questions if I left something out accidentally.

Solid tek, but I'd make one modification.

Fresh squeezed lemon juice instead of vinegar. Cool
Row, row, row your boat, Gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily...

Previously I tried that as well, lemon juice on one occasion and citric acid on another.

Taste wise, no difference. Onset and overall intensity of the trip was better with vinegar.

Might have been a more potent cactus, who knows...

If it's "snotty", put it in the refrigerator for days and that might settle.
It'll mold out of the refrigerator.
