Started about 25 loph seeds and about 7 days in from the time they were sown. A couple pictures with the one pic being somewhat hard to discern, quite a few have popped up. Smile

-In the second pic down a few look discolored, though they've started to get the same green-color as the first pic.

** Also, the other picture of the young seedling breaking surface is a outdoor lemon haze. Cool Have another pot of it also, just not in the picture.

EDIT: Will keep this thread updated as things progress. Smile

Update: 6/21/17 - 11 days since sown seeds

Many more are springing up Very happy

Just a few notes:

A few had turned this slight brown tinge, though still retaining a darker green color, so I hunted through a few cacti message boards and a few references and it pretty much varied from 'too much light' to 'too wet' to 'too compact of soil/locked out' Laughing . So after seeing several answers I lastly stumbled on a guy that has mentioned 'some of my seedlings turn that slight brown occasionally, though just let things run their course and more than likely they'll return to that vibrant dark green/green color. And sure enough they did.

Awwwwwwwww! Look at all the cute little things! LoveLoveLove

Gotta sow some of my own. Have run out of perlite though. Presumably cactus compost + vermiculite should work?

Yeah I'm excited. Doesn't hold a candle to some collection I've seen from here and from a few other forums though the plan is to get a nice healthy amount going though no plan to go crazy with it.

I just used Fox Farm Ocean Forest in a 50/50 ratio to perlite, but yeah what you mentioned should work for sure - any common potting soil mixed 50/50 with perlite.

I also threw in a bit of coarse sand to spread through the mix, though probably didn't have to.

EDIT: Just realized you mentioned verm. Wouldn't use verm though I don't think. Essentially something fast draining that won't hold onto water for real long amounts of time, then again I've never used vermiculite aside for mushrooms. To keep moisture adequate I use a clear dome lid which i fasten down to the clay pot, mist the inside of the clear lid, then carefully mist the soil. I also use a tiny heat mat under the pot. That setup seems to hold moisture well yet still allowing the soil to progressively dry.

But hey Im no expert or anything haha, so who knows on the verm. Laughing

Update: 7/2/17

Everything's going well, they've grown a bit long, though they ended up flattening out mostly and becoming more round and globular. A few more seedlings have popped up, I've counted 22 healthy, fat round lophs. Smile

*Just a closeup snapshot of a cluster of them.

^^I had had trouble finding perlite where I am but now know it should be available from the builders' merchant as an insulation material. I just hope there's one in town that has it rather than the one ten miles away!

Seeing your photo's, my green thumbs are getting itchy!

One's a closeup shot from today, and the other is a farther shot of the bunch. The few that are on the left side of the bottom photo are rounding out, they should be fully plumped up soon, probably in a handful of days or less.

Small update from that same pictured cluster. Darkening up a bit and beginning to see the indentations/creases in a couple, the slight shadowing that the light's casting reveals it.

Apparently the hair like spines are something temporary that seedlings go through early on. Trouts notes if I remember.

edit: I stand corrected on them having absolutely 'no' spines once those fall off, they actually do have spines, though they're very short and barely even make it up to the depression where the areole is at. [Trouts Notes]

Well, finally took some snapshots of some of the other clusters, aside from the one that I've shown over n' over Razz

These are 3 other separate clusters. There's a few more clusters with just two, and some individual ones [obviously not going to photo those lol]

Thank you.

When I was misting the soil I went to unscrew the spray cap to refill the water bottle, dropped it into the pot, went to pick it up out've the pot and knocked 3 babies over, uprooting them out've the dirt.. Wut?

Replanted them, so we'll see if they make it, it's cool though - only a couple soldiers down. Cool

Coming up on 2 months almost since germinated.

Subtle variations since 9 days ago. Rounding off even more, developing that characteristic look. All of em startin to look like these two.

More color, more definition, they're comin along. Here's a few of the clusters now, minus a few singles and doubles that I didn't include.

Lovely to see. I'm chuckling because I've been identifying individual specimens via the appearance of their neighbouring pieces of perlite...
