Maybe i´m asking the impossible here, but could you shed some light on how you get these pictures to be so incredibly detailed and sharp?

Honestly man, it's all about the software.

I start out with Photoshop and use a plugin called Kai's Power Tools. KPT is no longer available for purchase unfortunately. It was originally created/distributed by Metacreations which is also the same company that created Bryce back in the day. Eventually Corel bought Metacreations and started selling Kai's Power Tools as the KPT Collection but as I said, it's no longer available for "purchase".

Anyways, the fractal generator I use is from KPT5 and it's called FraxPlorer.

I've included a screenshot of it to kinda give you an idea on how it works. You start with the gradient and then move to the Universe Mapper where you can choose the flavor of fractal you want to play with be it mandelbrot, mandelcube or newtonbrot, or variations of these.

Once you've created the base (or if using an image, once you've selected the area you want the fractal to be in) you create a new layer and go into FraxPlorer to create a fractal. Once you've got it tweaked the way you want, you hit apply, mess with the layer blending and opacity and repeat the process.

Pretty much every fractal image in this thread was created in less than two hours not including render times for the larger pieces.

I hope this helps unravel the mystery and feel free to blast me a PM if you need a hand tracking down KPT..

That means the file size is too big for the site to accommodate.

Hmmm... it's only 4.08 MB

I'll adjust the size and try again.

EDIT: Success! Thanks Art!
