Just saw his directing debut, "Synecdoche, New York," by the way...possibly his best work yet.

I've been wanting to watch this movie, but it seems so heavy and so much a reflection of the heartbreaking aspects of entheogen work that I haven't felt in the right mood.

It is most definitely that...incredibly time-dilated, rapidly reflective, and deeply impacting.

'Requiem' is a great film, but I'm a bigger fan of "Pi," as far as that director goes ("The Fountain," as well, but on a different level), and "Trainspotting," as far as heroin movies go. "The Wrestler" is actually quite good, as well.

Saw "Antichrist," today.... Holy shit. It's an intense film, but a must-see. It has two of my favorite actors and one of my favorite directors ("Dogville" is also worth a watch).

alice in wonderland

Which version? The only one I've liked so far is Alice, a 1988 version from Czech director Jan Svankmajer. It's the only version bizarre enough to match the book. The book has all movies beat, but I'm hoping the new one coming out is good, Tim Burton's good at strange movies.

hey researherWink

I was actually talking about the disney versionEmbarrased , as someone already mentioned "the wallruss and the carpenter" deserves a film on its own lol

no but seriously I am intrigued and shall check out the version "alice" you reccomend as it seems to be more my style

Great fucking movie. My wife heard about it and we could only find an old, crappy VHS copy, but man was that a cool movie.

More than "worth a watch", in my opinion.

Nicole Kidman was nice in Moulin Rouge, great in Eyes Wide Shut, but her character in Dogville was the best I've seen from her.

The film is like a theatrical play, the whole drama plays out in a hall - it's dark so I cannot say but it could be a gymnasium sports hall - where the different parts of the village (Dogville) are represented by delineated areas - as if drawn with chalk - on the black ground. It's fantastic what depth that film could pull out with such a minimal setting.

The ending is deeply satisfying and highly disturbing at the same time.

Great movie.

The Big Kahuna

quote from it:
"It doesn't matter whether you're selling Jesus or Buddha or civil rights or 'How to Make Money in Real Estate With No Money Down'. That doesn't make you a human being; it makes you a marketing rep. If you want to talk to somebody honestly, as a human being, ask him about his kids. Find out what his dreams are – just to find out, for no other reason. Because as soon as you lay your hands on a conversation to steer it, it's not a conversation anymore; it's a pitch. And you're not a human being; you're a marketing rep."

poking around the tube in bed at 2am with the remote, found The 400 Blows on some obscure channel 371 or something.
Damn wonderful film I hadn't seen in like 30 years.

Can you imagine if they'd had DMT in Paris in 1950?

why the hell not, I've referred to it before in some politics thread here, and sneaking a little cykodelix into DC punchbowls certainly wouldn't hurt our politicians' job performance:
