As of late, I've been managing the burgeoning art career of one Mr. Art Van D'lay.

Mr. Van D'lay has asked me to share his work with you good people going forward, as he purportedly lives in a cave in Tibet without phone, computer or electricity. How he makes this work without these things is just one of his many mysteries, but I intend to honor his wishes and will be posting his art on the regular.

Mr. Van D'lay will forward to me (most likely by owl or yak) his daily text and content. I will then relay them here without edits or exposition, and report back to his cave once a day to communicate questions and comments.

For the sake of clarity, anything I post which is not a direct quote from Monsieur Van D'lay will appear (as this) in red. Direct messaging from Art Van D'lay himself will always appear in white.

You can expect to see a variety of work - some political, some abstract, all overtly psychedelic. Mr. Van D'lay instructs me to say that you are encouraged to download everything he posts here and peruse at a higher resolution, and further that you are welcome to repost anywhere you please, provided you credit him appropriately.

As the sign says
"This experience is not for everyone, and not all who choose to open the door deal well with the questions it raises. Should you choose to proceed, be aware that integration issues may follow."

We dine in Hell.

Bon appetoot!

And so we begin thusly:

This first one is called Bad Karma, and I made it in 2015.

There's much to unpack here, but it's your basic "buy the ticket, take the ride" type of cautionary doodad; a warning to all who open this door that it ain't all faeries and moonbeams.

Unlike how I've worked pretty much ever since, I drew this on paper initially. Since finding ZBrush I don't do pencils (or anything other than ZBrush).

Mr. Van D'lay will be providing isolated asset shots, process videos and narrative exposition in the coming days.

Once again he has asked me to respectfully reiterate that neither he nor I take any responsibility for any or all of the following: damaged psyches/chronic nightmares/spontaneous pants shitting episodes.

Your trauma is your own affair.

Partake of this fruit at your peril.

I logged in to request that you inform Mr Van D’lay that posting some “trippy” pictures is all well and good, but we really need his roaring internal fire and granite foundations back here and slapping around all the silly bitches that really need it.

Upon seeing the offering at hand, I realize I must stand corrected. The art will more than suffice. Please express my appreciation to Mr Van D’lay.

Thank you both for your gracious comments. Mr. Van D'lay has been made aware.

La Petit Morte (from Bad Karma)

Because Monsieur Morte is always waiting; he has literally nothing but time. Here he is seen playing peekaboo; chillin' in a little hat whilst enjoying a cigarillo.

In point of fact, there are 39 such peeled off faces comprising the background of this piece - because 40 would have been too many and 38 just wasn't enough.

At first I thought: "nice art!" and then I zoomed in...
Level of detail in these is incredible.

Mr. Van D'lay assures me one can go nuts deep into any given piece.

Brain Eating Freekadoodle (from Bad Karma)

His name is actually Contrapasso, but more about him later. I have the feeling you may be seeing more of him in future.

Thank you both for your comments. They have been noted and forwarded on to Mr. Van D'lay.

Van D'lay Family Crest (from Bad Karma)

This one is only for the fanciest among you. If you're not super fancy, I respectfully ask that you avert your eyes and continue on to the funny cat pictures subforum. I'll have something more suited to your lowbrow palettes elsewhere in my portfolio.

Note: It's rumored that 17th Century patriarch, Wolfgang Von Van D'lay would scoop out his servants' eyeballs with a berry spoon when they lingered over this crest for too long. It is branded between Mr. Van D'lay's shoulder blades, as it has been on all of the Van D'lay men going back over 600 years.

Smokin' Skull (from Bad Karma)

Happy as a friggin' clam. And if you were smokin what he's been smokin', you likely would be too.

These guys are small in the larger piece, so much of their detail is lost. But he knows it's there, goddamnit! He even gave em ponytails.
