Hello all,

Today at around 2pm CET the server went down. Unfortunetly it took until 6pm before I even knew the server was down (it was a pretty busy day at work with new releases of my software).

At around 9pm I arrived at the datacenter and after a quick check I found out what was wrong: the person who rented the place right below our beloved server had removed his server and in the process disconnected our network cable.

Altough the fix was easy I demanded another place for our server since the now available space underneath it would be used again soon which could bring more downtime. The server is now placed on top of another server of mine and two servers of good friends of mine.

I hope this will not happen again, everytime I see the server down my heart misses a few beats...

Does it mean I have a problem if I'm on the nexus with nothing better to do pressing refresh every 10 minutes?

i was so upset all morning and afternoon.. quitting heroin cold turkeys one thing, but nexus withdrawal was HORRIBLE! i was lost without my dear nexus, im so happy its okay. all kinds of thoughts were popping in my head. i wondered if id ever talk to my friends again!! but all is well and i couldnt be happier. YAY NEXUS IS BACK!!!!!!

it would be cool if we had a backup nexus...or some sort of means to regroup in case of server failure...anybody got a spare server to put a chat page on that we could meet at??

Thank goodness I think not only did my heart miss a few beats, but I'm pretty sure it stopped all together at some point. What a relief to wake up and find our beloved nexus back online.

I'm pretty sure it only goes to show how much we all love this place. And also how much Trav puts into this place, even on top of his already busy busy schedule. Thank you Trav my friend. We're back home people

We def need some sort of official meeting place in case the server goes down, jork! How can we go about that?

sounds like a good idea to me. easiest would be irc channel but i hate irc i never use it

would be very nice if someone could host something like the nexus chat room in another server, and then if there was some automatic script that, whenever forum cannot be reached due to server down, then one would be automatically taken when trying to enter the nexus, to this alternative server chatroom with a little warning sign saying nexus is down and that for now chat with other members here, and try again later, or smt of the sort

but I got no idea first of all if anybody else would be willing to give some server space for 'emergencies', and secondly, if its easy to make this automatic link in case server is down

Think a lot of folks are the same lol the last time was well dodgy least it wasnt long this time. I always think the worst possible scenario, like oh no thats it, the dreams over lol, swims learned mescal and dmt but theres so much more he has to learn and theres no other site like this with so much useful info. Good job traveller much appreciated!

Yea, most definitely...I too was clicking refresh every ten minutes, what an awful feeling. The Nexus is such an incredible resource, I don't know what I'd do without it.

I'm currently looking at ways to have a small 'backup' place for the nexus in case it will go down again.

I already found some good spots for it, I only have to workout the technical parts (love doing that ).

I do. I have no time to develop the technical solutions, but I have the space and bandwidth needed, and would be very glad to help out! I see the forum is coded in ASP, something I have no knowledge at all about... I do, however, know quite a good amount of PHP. If the chat solution is based on PHP, or ASP without the need of any technical interference, I can easily set it up. The Traveler, if it is needed, please let me know!
