I guess that in persistent depression some thoughts/behaviors have become rigid so that more in the persons life and situation needs to change. But I don't know...

For me, it entails almost always dealing with one symptom or another. I also get bouts of major depression, which doubles the cognitive and emotional load. For some, persistent depression is lifelong. It's wild and complex.
